Back to the Bunker

I went up on Sunday again.  This time Brett Merlin joined Jamie and myself on our death march up the hill.  Last time Jamie and I finished the hike in 35-40 min.  Brett runs on diesel fuel with a turbo and we ended up doing the hike in under 20 minutes.  It sucked.

But here are the photos. Notice for scale in some photos I-70 and in others you can see Creek side.

Enjoy.

ClimbTech Arming The Bunker

Recently I ventured out into a new area in Clear Creek "The Bunker".  I have no clue why it's called the bunker.  My best guess is that it has something to do with the 20-45 minute (pack weight dependent) death march up hill to get there.  That's just a guess.

Now my first trip up the area was downplayed.  I was told, "It's not as cool as it looks" and "It's smaller than it looks".

Truth.  It does look bigger from the road.
Truth.  The hike really does suck.
Truth.  "Apoca Lips Now" is AWESOME.
Truth.  I've been up now 5 times.
Truth.  All 5 were worth it.

So I decided to perma draw Apoca Lips, for various reasons, mostly because I really wanted to perma-draw a route and this one seemed like the right one.  So I ordered some cable draws from ClimbTech and this is what happened.

Note: These were just some test photos we took.  Jamie and I will venture back and do even better this weekend.

The Prowler

Years ago Jason Baker bolted a line right of Twitch in Clear Creek Canyon.  The line sat unsent and ignored.  Recently Mark Anderson has been on a tear and spent some time on this line.  Thus "The Prowler" came to be.

Photos of Jamie Gatchalian

The Prowler clocks in at 5.14a.  The route is very short but packs quite a punch, the lower crux being in the V9-10 range.

While on my attempt I was unable to do the first crux I found the moves above to be some of the coolest around.  Sadly I have no photos of those moves.

Lightning

A cool storm with cooler lightning came through today... I had to snap a picture.  Here is my favorite.

Taken from my garage.
